Orientation Programme for Sem III Students @OBS – 10th August 2015


Oakbrook Business School gave warm welcome to Semester III students after their successful completion of Summer Internships at end of first year. Students with more enthusiasm and practical insights are back to campus completing one more milestone towards their bright career.


Orientation Programme started at 10:00 a.m. with a welcome speech by Ms. Shraddha Sheth Academic Head OBS. Slide show of the OBS was shown and overall progress of OBS was shared with the dignitaries. Information related to Marketing, CSR, HR and other conclaves were shared by Ms. Sheth. She also shared the feedback of corporate & indicated to students that this is the last year in college and they should take it with utmost care and sincerity. If this year is not taken sincerely they will have hard life throughout in their career.


After the warm welcome given to the dignitaries, Chief Guest Mr. Dharmendra Joshi, Secretary General of Gujarat Chamber of Commerce of India shared his happiness of interacting with students. Mr. Joshi asked few questions to the students related to their goals where they see themselves in next 15 years. He explained students the importance of goal setting. According to him each individual is influenced by parents, friends, family, social groups, to choose careers but it is duty of individual to set some target to be achieved and what is the ultimate goal for setting such targets. Individual should know what exactly one will achieve from these goals. He emphasized on keeping happiness following the ethical path as the prior goal.


Mr. Mukund Shukla, Chief Manager, Circulation, Indian Express was the key note speaker for the event. He informed students that in any organization their own people are their first customers. According to him students should create a positive approach towards each and everything; he also explained the same with example of Sachin Tendulkar, Vinod Kambli. He also asked students to do SWOT analysis of themselves and also of the organisation where they will join for better growth. Mr. Shukla speech was thrilling and motivated the students to work hard for better career.


Next Speaker, Mr. Siddharth Shah, Entrepreneur, Shalibhadra Pvt. Ltd. also interacted with the students. Mr. Shah emphasized on developing a value system in life. He told that growth should be backed by strong values. It is necessary for students to make observations and have their own opinion to improve themselves. He also advised students to develop a habit of diary writing.


Mr. Saleel Bhatt, Former Business Head of Aashima Group & associated as visiting faculty with OBS then interacted with students wherein he asked students to prepare ignited & specific goals for short, mid and long terms. He told students to have a spark. If students will love their job they will excel in any field. The second most important thing he asked students to do is to develop networks and make best use of the social media tools. Mr. Bhatt speech ignited the students to be enthusiastic forever.


Mr. Palak Sheth, Member of Board of Governors also interacted with the students and explained them how life is always full of difficulties and responsibilities. He told students that it has been completion of one year in OBS and so now they should be more responsible. Every student should achieve with excellence. He also indicated the rules and regulations & how to make best use of the system. He told that MBA programme is challenging & if taken in right spirit it will make them better professional.

At 12:00 p.m. after a small break, session was taken by Digvijay Katkar, Head Corporate Affairs at Apollo Tyre. Sir started the session by his view on life. According to him life has 3 parts
          1) Learning
          2) Applying what is learnt
          3) Proper Aptitude


Mr. Digvijay told that every individual is a manager as he has to manage his life, family and also profession. He emphasized on value system development. According to him nothing is impossible in life & one should learn to benchmark and cross it & make everything possible. Mr. Digvijay discussed about importance of leadership and being a leader. He shared that leadership is inbuilt process and comes from within and cannot be imposed. Mr. Digvijay also discussed about team building and its other aspects. Lastly he discussed about interpersonal skills which are most important in personal as well as professional life. He advised the students to keep SMART goals in life and always take a 360 Degree feedback.

In the session Mr. Digvijay gave 4 grandpa rules to students about how team of family can be made by not bringing dispute to family and respecting all the members. Mr. Digvijay also informed some dos and don’ts for life such as Never work in haste and avoid injustice.

After splendid learning students took lunch break at 2:00 p.m.


Post lunch session was conducted by Dr. A.P.Kuchadker, Professor Emeritus, IIT, Mumbai. Dr. Arvind also started his session explaining about how ethics are important in life. He discussed about the scope of HR in India and the need for potential people for the same. According to him concept of “Blended Learning” should be used often. He also discussed about team building and requirement for self learning. He ended his session introducing to students the importance of accepting life as an open ended question. He also gave example of Harvard University to give actual understanding of learning process.

The one day orientation programme ended and the Semester III students were taken introduced to the subject introduction by Ms. Radha Gandhi.

Students after the orientation are more sincere to work hard for achieving excellence in their career path.



Celebration of Independence Day of India in Oakbrook Business School



On the 69th Independence Day of India, flag hoisting ceremony was held at Oakbrook Business School at 0930 hours. Around 130 students participated in the ceremony accompanied by board members, faculties and staff.


At 0950 hours the Flag Hoisting was done by Mrs. Aruna Shah a lawyer by profession. After the flag hoisting everyone recited the National Anthem. Mrs. Aruna Shah then shared her view on Indian Liberation.

She expressed that today’s youth in rather of competing with each other should help each other for the development of the country. She also added that the struggle the freedom fighters have taken to give us Independent India and sacrifices made by the great souls for country and resident of the country should never be forgotten. Today’s Youth should always maintain Unity and the spirit of providing helping hand in development of the nation.

Dr. C. Gopalkrishnan advisor & member of Board of Governor interacted with the students to share his thoughts. Dr. C. Gopalkrishnan mentioned in his interaction that after Independence there were hardly few universities all over the country and today there are hundreds of universities present. The data itself shows what scope today’s youth have. Dr. Gopalkrishnan told the students that there are ample of opportunities with them and they should work hard and make optimum utilization of the resources available to them for their progress leading to the development of the country. Dr. Gopalkrishnan gave factual depiction of progress to students.


Mr. Palak Sheth, member of Board of Governors came forward to share his views. Mr. Palak shared about essentiality to be a MBA. According to Mr. Sheth, Management is the area which leads too many opportunities and management is core function of any activity done and students of Oakbrook Business School should be proud to select management as their career and work hard to develop excellence in their career path. Mr. Sheth shared journey of developing Oakbrook Business School at the end of his interaction which was a guiding light for the students of management.

Ms. Shraddha Sheth, Academic Head also took opportunity to interact with students on this occasion. She thanked all the students for doing elegant decoration in the campus and making adorable rangoli at the entrance gate. She even asked everyone to take a pledge with her that we will not cheat ourselves and anyone around.

Aayushi Bisht, host of the occasion called Lipson Paul OBS student of the first year to sing patriotic song. Lipson truly inculcated patriotism by his melodious voice.

Pooja Mishra shared some Google facts related to Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam.

Safdar Karimi another student than took a quiz of the audience on topic “About our Country-India”.


After the Student Activities everyone proceeded to have light refreshments. Jai Hind!!

Oakbrook Business School Induction Program New Batch 2015-17


Oakbrook Business School organized the orientation program for their 2nd batch 2015-2017. All the students were excited and enthusiastic about taking a step ahead in their career towards excellence. Students were also eager about knowing more about the college and faculties which will show them path towards Excellence.

Day 1 – 3rd August 2015:

Registration was done between 9:30 to 10:00 where students were offered flower and sweets after registering. Students entered the seminar hall where Mr. John Paul Sir, Faculty for Communication took a small session before the Chief Guest Arrived. Sir asked the students to view on difference between investments and spending, he also asked them to write about what they expect from Oakbrook Business School & where they want to see themselves after 2 years. Students were very much motivated in the session.

Chief Guest arrived at 10:30 and the lamp lightening was done by dignitaries Dr. Sunil Shukla, Ms. Ruzan Khambatta, Dr. C. Gopalkrishnan, Mr. Palak Sheth, Mr Chandramauli Pathak, Ms. Shraddha Sheth, and Ms.Nivedita Shrivastava. Ms. Shraddha Sheth, Academic Head of OBS gave the welcome speech. In her speech she told the students that it is a special moment for them & congratulated them to choose OBS. She also called out the name of rankers from GTU and she assumed that OBS will provide them opportunities to cherish their dreams.

Key note Speaker Dr. Sunil Shukla, Director of EDI before addressing the students complimented the other dignitaries for their work and then informed the students that taking degree just won’t work, students will have to use repository of resources available.He told students to work hard & optimize the best in these two years. Lastly he just ended with a line “If you see opportunities they multiply, if you ignore they die” Guest of Honor Mr. Dharmendra Joshi was not able to make it but gave all his compliments to OBS and its students for taking right decision.

Chief Guest Ms. Ruzan Khambatta, while addressing the students explained few quotes that can help to take proper decision.She gave very motivated example by quoting the Quotes like “Life is stricter than a teacher”, “Simple living High Thinking”. She even shared her views on lateral thinking and ended by sharing Secret of Success is right decision which comes from experience and experience comes from wrong decisions.

Dr, C. Gopalkrishnan, mentor & advisor started his speech by asking a question that why the students have opt for MBA? In his speech he led emphasis that getting job is not difficult but getting right skill for the job is difficult. He told that knowledge is important if one has knowledge, he will have power and money both. He also asked students to work hard & grow institution name which will be in end beneficiary to students only as for next 50-60 years they will use OBS name.

Mr. Palak Sheth, member of board governance then addressed the students by explaining them 80-20 theory of MBA. He indicated that students are required to put 80% effort & to do a lot of hard work & faculty will reciprocate by 20% efforts. Management Program is challenging program & require sincerity and professional approach. He told them that making decision is difficult and students should learn to know next best alternative.

At 12:30 pm a small tea break was given after which the ice breaking session of Mr. Chandramauli Pathak started.

Pathak Sir started his session explaining the students the importance of knowing oneself, he then explained students how to introduce themselves and asked the students to think about the competency and capabilities they have based on which to add an adjective to their name. Sir then asked the students to divide themselves into group of 12 consisting of 6 boys and 6 girls. Each Group was given newspaper and they have been asked to make a company, brand name and a creative and innovative product.

Subsequently, students presented their products and company Students came up with very innovative ideas and where judged the most innovative product was the floating bed. In the concluding session sir explained the objective behind the activity and also told the students that without vision nothing can be done. Before aiming something or making goals visualization & development of synergy is necessary.

Day 2- 4th August 2015

All students were enthusiastic for their first industrial Chhatral, Ahmedabad & reported to OBS by 9:15.At 9:30 they left the campus to visit Vishal Packaging Pvt. Ltd. Students reached the industry and there they were divided into 2 groups so that they can visit the plant properly.Students interacted with officials of Vishal Packaging.The official Mr. Nilesh Pandya explained the entire process, gave overview of industry & answered all questions of students. He inspired students & motivated them while answering the questions. Students got the insight of industry.

After the lunch break the students were asked questions by the faculty and were asked to make presentation in groups as done on the first day. The students presented the operating cycle of the company, challenges then workers faced in the factory and also gave suggestions that if they were managers how they would have solved that problems. 12 groups gave their presentation and suggestion out of which 2 groups have detailed information of operating cycle and their understanding about the company.

Day 3 – 5th August 2015

Students gathered in seminar hall at 9:30 am after which they got half hour time prepare for the presentation topic given on day 1 of orientation. 10:15am Mr.Chandramauli Pathak started taking the presentations. There were 9 groups formed and discussions were done on 9 different topics. Students have to give oral presentation in which they used their own creativity ideas to present. Few group used Role play method, while some gave both positive & negative sides of the topics like Who is good manager?, Online & offline shopping, Yoga for betterment of tomorrow, Today’s Youth, Effect of TV Commercial, Make in India, China market and also Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Pathak Sir concluded the session by giving his views and suggestion to improve to students.

Post lunch session was taken by Mr. John Paul and Ms. Shweta, they gave the presentation on Neev (beginnings) Sir explained the value of time, Importance of learning English and possessing employability skills. Sir also discussed about skills that employer looks for and told the batch to be more interactive and confident in expressing their views.

Subsequently, Dr. Gopalkrishnan took a session wherein he firstly discussed with students how they will have to study in MBA. He explained that managerial problems are different from time to time, country to country and situation to situation. He explained that communication skills, Conceptualization and implementation plan preparation are most important. Then sir gave an example and discussed the case of Dashman Company with the students. Lastly he spared time for the question and answer sessions.

Thereafter Mr. Jignesh Darji, faculty explained the evaluation criteria and disciplinary criteria and students need to follow in campus. The Question answer session was also there where students were free to ask solve any query regarding the college, its activities, evaluation criteria, learning pattern. Students were seen more confident at end of orientation program and the happiness of selecting best suitable MBA College for them can be seen on their smiling faces.
